<i>Hermetia illucens</i> adults are susceptible to infection by the fungus <i>Beauveria bassiana</i> in laboratory experiments

Rearing of the black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens, in mass production systems is increasing. Its use as both a bio-converter organic waste and feed for other livestock has transformed it into one most produced insects world. As result, new research needed to evaluate risk insect diseases affecting thus productivity. While some studies have focused on larval stage flies, date, few assessed risks adult stage, vital system. In this study, susceptibility flies entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana KVL 03-122 was evaluated laboratory experiments by quantifying mortality, egg-laying capacity, sporulation when were subjected two concentrations fungus. The findings showed that are susceptible biocontrol agent B. bassiana, with high mortality low egg count dose treatment.
